The
Jefferson Proving Ground Heritage Partnership met Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the
South Ripley Elementary School. President Norma Lou Irwin conducted the meeting.
Minutes
were approved as published on a motion by Bill Corning and seconded by Bob Irwin.
Lilian
Carmer made a motion to approve the financial report and it was seconded by Ken Knouf. Both motions passed unanimously.
Knouf
reported on Regatta parking. The total earned was $495. He also presented the text for the John Hunt Morgan Marker site kiosk and discussed the documentary made by Elizabeth Winters.
Ron
Harsin reported on the JPGHP website and presented usage statistics summary since it went on line in February. The totals were 26 hits in February, 52 in March, 2,244 in May, 2,994 in June and 1,351 so far in July.
Ron
also distributed post cards promoting his
two Madison books and reported the cost of the cards was $237 for $1,000.
Wally
Smith of LaPorte and Dave Hackle have shown an interest in being presenters at the Nov. 13 seminar. A session by Marilyn Browning on St. Magdalene Church was suggested. The seminar will be held at the Jennings County Library.
The
report by grant researcher Barbara Jachimiak showed there has been no response from Jennings County Community Foundation regarding proposal for JPG collections sent in May; an application for $500 was submitted to Ripley
County Community Foundation
for
the JPG book project expense;. research is continuing for JPG Collections Project and general support for operating fund; and a current estimate and a letter of commitment
from printers are needed for the St. Magdalene
Church history.
The
Old Timbers book was discussed and Norma Lou reported she is in process of contacting Chilton Thomson.
Proposed
letter for support and membership was distributed. Jean McClellan suggested adding the Internet address. She also mentioned a memorial fund should be considered.
Ken
reported that Maj. General Charles Sweeney died earlier in the month and his career as a pilot was discussed.
Janice
Sanders reported Holiday Express at Madison has been reserved for the Nov. 16 meeting and 2005 Madison meetings.
Terry
Stephenson, HHH coordinator, asked about an executive order regarding Old Timbers. Knouf reported he was aware of the order.
It
was announced membership dues for next year are due in October.
