The
Jefferson Proving Ground Heritage Partnership met Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at the
North Madison fire station with the president, Norma Lou Irwin presiding.
Minutes
were approved on a motion by Bill Sanders and seconded by Ken Knouf.
Financial
report was approved by the committee.
An
update of cost of the St. Magdalene book will be obtained.
Ken
reported The Jefferson County Preservation Council will have a work detail at the Oakdale School Saturday, Oct. 2, starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers are welcome to help.
Ken
announced no payment has been received as yet for the Regatta parking fees.
Ron
Harsin stated things seem a little better on the website with the number of hits up from last month.
Copy
of the latest copy of the JPGHP newsletter, which is edited by Ron, was reviewed.
Budget
for the November seminar was reviewed and a grant has been submitted to the Jennings County Community Foundation for seminar expenses. The seminar is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at the Jennings County Library at North Vernon. Pre-registration is $20 and $25 after Nov. 1 and at the door. This includes a catered meal by Barger Catering. Speakers for the morning sessions are Wally Smith, an expert
on World War II from
LaPorte,
and Dave Hackel, who will discuss the relationship between JPG and the Charlestown
Powder Plant. The afternoon sessions will be led by Marilyn Browning of Versailles on a history of St. Magdalene Catholic Church and Jean Sauer McClellan will speak about Jennings County
people who lived in the JPG area before the government took over their land.
Ron
Harsin reported on a possible grant application to the Rising Sun Regional Foundation to publish a book of transcriptions of oral histories.
Membership
dues should be paid by the October meeting. Lilian Carmer made a motion to drop the associate membership as proposed. David Lee seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The
letter composed by Janice Sanders was approved for mailing.
The
Partnership will have a booth in front of a Madison residents home during Chatauqua Sept. 25 and 26. Members are asked to donate crafts and other items.
Louis
Munier showed a lamp made with a projectile base and primers.
Next
meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at the Jennings County Library at North Vernon.
