Minutes
November 16, 2004
The
Jefferson Proving Ground Heritage Partnership met at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16,
2004,
at Holiday Inn Express at Madison. President Norma Lou Irwin presided.
Minutes
were approved as published on a motion by Ken Knouf, seconded by Louis Munier.
The
financial report was reviewed and filed for audit on motion by Lilian Carmer
seconded
by Bill Sanders.
Ken
Knouf announced a $1,000 check has been received from the family of Hallie Miller
to
be earmarked for a second edition of the book “Old Timbers,” written by Chilton
Thomson.
Plans are to include remarks by Thomson, additional photographs and information.
Report
on the Nov. 13 seminar was given by Lilian Carmer and Ken Knouf. Comments
by
those attending were “very good day” and “worthwhile.” It was determined a total
of
51 people attended, although some did not attend all the sessions. The dinner
served
to 45 persons by Barger Catering was well received and rated a 10 on a scale
of
1 to 5. Proceeds were estimated at $1,140, which included receipts of the silent
auction.
Thanks were expressed to the Jennings County Library, where the seminar
was
held.
It
was decided to hold the seminar in Ripley County next year with emphasis on history
of
Ripley County families displaced by the JPG. Other topics suggested were Marble
Corner,
Old Timbers, schools in the area and construction of the JPG facility. Date
of
the seminar will be earlier so it will not conflict with the opening of gun deer
season.
Possible places for the seminar were suggested.
David
Lee reported other organizations besides the partnership that helped with
parking
at the Regatta have not been paid. He will be speaking with the Regatta
again
regarding the money they owe the partnership.
Bill
and Janice Sanders reported that dues for 2005 are payable now. Carl Busch
made
a motion to establish an associate member category with dues of $15. David
Lee
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The bylaws will be amended to
reflect
the new membership category.
Ron
Harsin reported on the number of hits on the web site with 355 hits the past
month.
He has added several pictures and articles to the archive pages. The address
is
www.JPGHeritage.org.
Ken
Knouf made a motion to put a grant package together for up to $50,000 to fund
a
position for a transcriber and to publish the oral histories in hard-back book
form.
Ron Harsin seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The application
will
be made to the Rising Sun Regional Foundation.
Approval
was given to pay $1,000 on the debt owed to HHH on a motion by Ken Knouf
and
seconded by Bill Sanders.
Louis
Munier displayed an original State Road 29 sign which he purchased several
years
ago. He reported he would donate it to the partnership.
The
collection taken at the meeting amounted to $15.50.
Evelyn
Comer sent word to the group she and Marilyn Browning were unable to attend
because
of a wreck in their area.
The
next meeting is Tuesday, Dec.
21, 2004, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Jennings
County Library with a pitch-in supper.
