North Vernon – Jennings County Public Library

 

The meeting at North Vernon Library opened with approval of August minutes at 7:00 p.m.

 

Finance Report:  Norma Lou (Irwin) asked each member present to read the report, it was followed by approval and is to be filed for audit.

 

There are not 21 dues paying members:  Dues are currently $25 for single membership and $35 for family membership.

 

Lilian (Carmer) stated the officers for the coming year:

            Norma Lou Irwin – President

            Ilene Harsin – Secretary

            Millie Busch – Treasurer

            David Lee – Vice-President

David (Lee) graciously volunteered.

 

Ken (Knouf) reported that Phil Mann is doing repair on Oakdale School to eliminate moisture and other necessary repairs.  Phil is retiring the end of September.

 

Ken (Knouf) reminded everyone of the JPG History Seminar on Saturday November 4, 2006 at the Heritage Center, 615 W. First Street, Madison, Indiana.

 

Presenters:

Cathy Hale – Executive Director, Madison Railroad

Mike Moore / Ron Grimes – JPG Info available at the Historical Society archives

Leroy Harsin – Remembrance of My Life along Big Creek

Pam Zehren – Daughter of Francis Yancey (last surviving teacher at Oakdale School) sharing memories.

 

Costs:

$20 (through October 31st)

$25 (thereafter and the day of the seminar)

 

The JPG Airport is the storage area for FEMA trailers, this is approximately a two year lease.  Estimate of 2,000 – 5,000 trailers that were previously stored in the south.

 

Big Oaks Partnership agreement – Air Guard needs approval from Air Force for hand-over to Big Oaks.

 

Website visits are approximately 28 visits per day.  Ron (Harsin) is busy, one night a week in Kentucky and contract with P&G in Cincinnati until the end of the year.

 

Ken (Knouf) stated there are 85 Oral Histories at the present time.

 

Newspaper Clippings book should be ready for sale at the Fall Seminar.

 

Lilian (Carmer) mentioned the “Come Visit” book by Jean McClellan is available for $26.50 each.  Norma Lou (Irwin) ordered two books.

 

The meeting ended with Norma Lou (Irwin) serving cake and punch for Ken Knouf’s recent marriage.

 

The meeting closed at approximately 8:00 p.m.
