Our 2008 Annual Fall Seminar !

The Jefferson Proving Ground Heritage Partnership met Tuesday, March
20, 2007, at the Jennings County Public Library at North Vernon.
President Norma Lou Irwin presided.
 
Minutes of the April (amended to read February) meeting were
approved on a motion by Mike Moore and seconded by Louis Munier.
 
The financial report showing a balance of $10,388.95 was discussed and
approved for audit on motion by Ron Harsin seconded by Moore.
An invoice was reported for $30 to Rachel Getz for transcribing.
Norma Lou reported Jean McClellan has suffered a stroke and is
improving at Four Seasons Health Care in Columbus. She will be having
cataract surgery in April. Other members had also been dealing with
illnesses.
 
Ken Knouf reported Judy Johnson has volunteered to speak about the
Marble Corner area at the November seminar. Other presenters will be
Jean McClellan, Chris Asher and Franklin Everman.
 
Knouf stated it had been reported Delaware Indians occupied the area in
the northeast corner of the JPG-Big Oaks area. The refuge has been
conducting studies on the affect of prescribed burning on frogs,
snakes, box turtles and frogs. He reported there is nothing new on Old
Timbers.
 
A historical map of Indiana was displayed. It showed the first white
settler as the Wooley Brothers in 1814. This was in the area of Little
Graham Creek and I Road.
 
Public review is being conducted on deer hunting  at Big Oaks. Members
were urged to make comments by April 17. The first deer was killed on
JPG-Big Oaks in 1953.
 
Ron Harsin reported on web site hits and visits. March was averaging 42
per day.
 
Others attending the meeting besides those mentioned were Evelyn Comer,
Marilyn Browning, Bob Irwin, Charles Dilk, Elbert Hinds, Ilene, Leroy
and Mary Harsin, Lilian Carmer, and HHH RC&D Coordinator Terry
Stephenson.
 
The group will meet during the HHH annual meeting April 19 at
Batesville.
