When did you come to the Proving Ground?
I came to Indiana in 1977. I came to the Proving ground in 1988 and stayed until 1993 when
I retired.
Where
did you work?
I worked for the Engineering Department, as the
Housing Manager, and I developed and wrote small contracts. I was not the contracting officer by any means,
but I did the dirty work and developed the contracts for mowing and trash removal. My main duties were
as housing director.
Did you have more than one job at JPG?
No. This was the only job that I did except housing by its nature had a lot of contract work.
Especially lawn mowing, My job evolved and later I got quite involved at “Old Timbers”. I
helped develop plans to do the roof.
What kind of training did you get?
None,
I brought my training with me, from Charleston Army Ammunition Plant and Rock Island Arsenal.
What kind of Equipment did you use?
Computer. just to do budgeting, analysis.
How much did you make?
First I started in 1988 around $32,000 and I left I received two step increases
and left about $35,000.
What
was the work atmosphere when you started?
Fine and I had a good
Boss, Ken Knouf. Super Guy. An outstanding individual and he treated his employees fairly.
He had 8 or 9 employees and all had different specific functions. We did try to learn from other
people so that we could do their jobs , but the jobs were very special but, I could not find a better place to work.
